That claim is based on the idea that “affordable housing” is defined as housing that costs no more than 30% of your income. I don’t think that definition is a good way to define “affordable housing.” Just because someone spends more than 30% of their income on housing doesn’t mean they can’t afford that housing. The fact that they are living in it proves that they can afford it.
